Complimentary and Alternative Therapies for Alzheimer's Disease
Saturday, April 30, 2005

With the ultimate goal of improving the health and
well being of adults with AD and their caregivers, this conference will provide
a scientific forum that brings together researchers, health care practitioners,
persons with AD and their families interested in complimentary and alternative
medicine (CAM) for AD in order to:
1) build scientific understanding of what is known
on CAM therapies for prevention and treatment of AD and behavioral symptoms
associated with AD;
2) explore avenues for further research; and
3) discuss possible collaborative efforts to foster
and support this research.
Specific objectives of the conference are as
follows:
-
Summarize the latest research developments on
risk factors and treatments for AD
-
Present and critically evaluate current
scientific findings regarding the effectiveness of CAM therapies for
prevention and treatment of AD and associated behavioral symptoms
-
Discuss weaknesses and strengths of research on
CAM therapies for AD and recommend strategies to improve research quality
-
Establish research needs and opportunities in
studying CAM therapies, thereby stimulating further research in these areas
-
Provide an opportunity for medical students,
health care providers and others to expand their awareness of CAM therapies
for AD
